5It's a BIG pop-up lover's must-have itemSep 28, 2008
By C. S. Ogryzlo
This is not your typical flip-the-flap pop-up book for your little one. First off, it weights about 5.4 lbs and with slipcover it is 14.7 h x 12.5" w x 2.2" d - it's a BIG HEAVY BOOK!

Certainly the story of "100 Years of Neiman Marcus" deserves to be presented in a bold manner - this is what this book does. The product description reads: "Behold a glimpse into the Neiman Marcus Pop Up Book, a fantastical memento of 100 years of style, our most iconic moments and memories executed in highly complex, pop-up splendor."

It's simply one of the most amazing "must-have-pop-up-books", especially for pop-up book collectors. OK, it also makes for a very nice coffee-table book but then I suggest you buy one w/out the slipcover and save yourself some money.

This is Neiman Marcus' website info: "Welcome to the enchanted universe of the Neiman Marcus Pop Up Book. This limited-edition memento follows a young girl's journey through Neiman Marcus from past to present. Our signature butterfly and an over-the-top Christmas make appearances, as well as our world-renowned art collection.
This unexpected take on the pop-up book brings surprises on every page. What happens if I pull this? Or flip that? Where will our heroine end up next? The only way to find out is to open the pages!"

If you can still score a limited edition hard cover in a slipcover for around $100.00 consider yourself lucky (the original N.M price) and don't hesitate - buy it. Collector's items usually become more expensive down the road. This one will be no exception. Try Ebay for better deals if you don't want to pay the often (and sometimes strangely) high amounts for a collector's book under "new & used" at Amazon.

Enjoy this splendid, over-the-top, fun & surprising 100 years of fashion history pop-up book!

4Well fittingDec 11, 2010

I just received this book today and spent some time absorbing its pages. It is strikingly beautiful and aims to be interactive -succeeding a lot more than not. I found the very first page to be a pleasant surprise, setting the mood well for the rest of the piece. The small segments of body copy on each page engages the viewer further, as it captures or nurtures the emotion felt each time you flip a page.
The last page, however, could have benefited from a heavier paper at the base, as it slightly tore upon handling it in what I thought would be the right way.
I would say it makes for a nice conversation piece as a coffee table book, and will surely bring a smile and a few "ahhh" moments to your guests.

2Big Size, Little TalentDec 22, 2008

This book is, indeed, heavy and big. The pop-up art is rudimentary, the flaps and pull-downs, skimpy. It seems as if this book was merely prepared to be a "collectible". I was under the silly impression that Neiman Marcus would put together a Neiman-Marcus-Type book, but this tome has the innovation and glitz of Target. Big and heavy disappointment.
